Public House Challenge Guidelines
1. THE INITIATIVE
1.1. In order to establish short list, all entries will be read by a panel of judges from the Merseyside Script Initiative (MSI) who have not submitted an entry.
1.2. Those who successfully make the short list may be invited to attend a workshop with other short listed entrants for the purpose of establishing abilities to work with others and develop ideas.
1.3. There is no financial award for successful applicants, although their work will be staged and surplus revenues may be distributed on a profit share basis, but the actors will have the priority.
1.4. Entries can only be submitted electronically as stated below.
1.5. The successful four applicants will be required to work as a team and individually to produce a collaborative, full-length theatre piece entitle “Public House” or other such title as may be deemed more suitable at a later date
2.1. The initiative is only open to Merseyside writers.
2.2. Members of Merseyside Script Initiative (MSI) who are selected as readers or members of the judging panel are not eligible to enter.
2.3. All applicants must join the MSI FaceBook group for updates and communications and must be prepared to attend MSI workshops after short-listing.
2.4. The script must be formatted for stage. Scripts in any other format, e.g. TV, film or radio, will not be accepted.
2.5. The submitted script must not have been workshopped at any MSI meeting.
2.6. The script must me no longer than ten pages and be a complete play or sketch involving two characters.
2.7. Applicants may submit as many scripts as they wish.
2.8. The text submitted must be original, entirely the author’s own work, not infringe the copyright or any other rights of any third party and not be defamatory of any living person or corporate body.
2.9. Entries are limited to scripts written in English.
3.1. By submitting a script the entrant acknowledges and agrees that the winning or any other short-listed script may be read out and/or reproduced by MSI.
3.2. By submitting a script the entrant agrees that MSI may in its sole discretion edit, adapt or abridge it for the purposes staging or publishing online.
3.3. By submitting a script, the entrant accepts that characters, situations and stories in the resulting production may, by the nature of creative arts, bear similarities to characters, situations and stories created by unsuccessful entrants and MSI accept no responsibility for such similarities.
3.4. The scripts will be read by a judging panel made up of MSI members who are not submitting. Scripts will be judged on originality, story, dialogue, characterisation, and relationship between the characters.
3.5. Shortlisted writers will be contacted personally and may be invited to attend a workshop with other writers.
3.6. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. No feedback or critique will be given on any unsuccessful script.
3.7. A copy of the script being submitted for the initiative along with the applicant’s contact details, must be received at the email address given by Midnight on Friday 31 January 2014. An automated email will be sent to applicants acknowledging receipt of the application. While we will endeavour to check for attachments, we are not responsible for attachments that have not arrived in MSI’s mailbox.
3.8. MSI reserves the right to cancel this initiative at any stage or refuse entry if deemed necessary at its absolute discretion.
3.9. Entrants will be deemed to have accepted these rules and to agree to be bound by them when entering this initiative.
4.1. Entrants’ contact and other personal details will be used by MSI for the purposes of contact.
4.2. Entrants’ details will be stored in electronic form by one or more members of the management team at MSI.
4.3. MSI may, at its discretion, pass entrants’ details to other interested parties but only insofar as those parties have a legitimate reason for contacting said entrants.
4.4. Your personal details will never be passed to any third part outside of MSI, including marketing and other commercial bodies.
